After winning the state championship in the Pro Street Stock class at peoria, there was an overwhelming fan response at the checkers for Kristina Brown.  I asked her a few questions so that the fans out there could get to know a little bit more about her, and here they are!

How much does it mean to you to be a Female that runs extremely well in a Male dominated sport? Or do you just consider yourself just another racer?

I don't think about being a female running up with the boys. I consider myself just another racer out there and I just happen to be female. Don't get me wrong, I'm very proud to be a female racer but I'm a competitor first who just wants to do my best out there.

Where do you see your racing career going in the near future?

As of now it looks like we are staying in the pro street class for another season.

Who is the biggest inspriation in your life that drives you to compete?

My parents always taught my brother and I to do our best in whatever we did. They have always been there to support us in everything we were involved in. They pushed us to get good grades in school and to go to college and get our degrees. In sports they were always there cheering me on from grade school sports through college volleyball. Now they are there every night with me at the track and seeing their faces when I do well is all worth the hard work.

How does it feel to race against your boyfriend? Is he the one you want to outrun the most on the track?

Well, I have been told by many people that I am a little too competitive for my own good. When I get in that car, I become a driver and not a girlfriend. Everyone I'm racing against is my competitor whether they are my friends off the track or not. A huge part of racing is the mental part. You have to be on your game every second you are in the car. I have noticed after racing against him and he does beat me I'm a little more upset that I didn't win but that is my competitiveness coming out.

Any advice for other aspiring drivers that are female? Why should they get into the sport, and what should they expect if they do?

Well, people always say you either have it or you don't when it comes to racing. I can never describe the feeling I had when I first strapped into a racecar and still feel everytime I race. I have a blast doing it but it has been very tough at times. I've had to have some pretty broad shoulders at times from being a female racer. There are always going to be people out there that don't like me being up front just because I am a female. I've had to learn to accept that and ignore them. But I say to anyone who wants to race to go for it. All you can do is try. And for all the females who want to try it, keep your head up and don't let anyone tell you that you can't do it because you are female.
